Dream Children

Uzabakiriho Fils
Fils is 19 years old, He was born on 9th November 1992, He has two brothers and is the second born in his family. “My
father disappeared after the Genocide probably he died ,my mother abandoned us and I had nowhere to live, it was hard to get food and other basics of life, I became so miserable and desparate. The other brother also had no means of helping me in any form, everyone had to find his way of surviving “

Reason why I went to street

The reasons that forced Fils to go to the street included:
“I had no food at home”. After the “death “ of my father and mother abandoning us, life became complicated and I had no other solution but to go to the street.”
“ Influence from my aged mates on the street, they could tell me about how I can make money through carrying people’s language and pick pocketing , due to this I had to leave and joined from Kimironko centre”
Life on the street
“ Life on the street was not easy because at times people beat us thinking that we are thieves. We ate from garbage bins. When you are sick no one to take care of you or to take you to the hospital. No medical care. No food, I used to sleep hungry in the carve of Kimironko, during the day I would go to restaurants to wash utensils’ so that I get leftovers “
I had no clothes but putting on rags. I walked bear footed. All what was promised to me by my fellow street kids wasn’t true,.
I began the habit of taking drugs to give me peace and to get the sleep in night, we were being hunted by Police sometime they would shoot at us because we had become real thieves.
THE JOURNEY TO ANLM
My friend whom I was staying together with told me about Africa new life ministries and how they get free food and get good water to drink and take a shower, I got interested when I had free food which was hard to get, on Monday we went together, I found many other street kids having food, I ate and had water, I was happy that day, I showered and felt good however they took us in the hall for praying but I dodged on that day. In the same week (Thursday) I went back and had meals and attended the praying session, they talked about drugs which was hard for me to leave, it was a battle to fight inside me whether I leave it or I continue with it.
Transformation in my life
Since I joined ANLM my life has continued to change, in due process of enjoying meals and teaching, I stopped taking drugs and stealing people’s bags , I became a good and clean person.
I later joined carpentry and now I have joined Government institution to learn more skill in carpentry, I can see my future is bright, I no longer stay on the street, I have a few friends that I stay with in the room we hire.

I dream about becoming a skillful carpenter , set up my workshop after finishing up my course I will be a good husband never to abandon my children that I will have with the wife of my own choice, be a good man in this country.
